Why I Don’t Offer Resume Writing as a Standalone Service

One thing people often ask me is, “Can you write my resume?”
And the honest answer is technically, yes, I can.
I’ve worked in career development, occupational rehabilitation, employability training, and career coaching for over 15 years. I understand recruitment, transferable skills, job applications, career transitions, and how to position experience effectively on paper.
But résumé writing on its own is not actually what I do.
At Nurture Ambition, I’m not focused on simply handing someone a finished resume and sending them on their way.
I’m focused on helping people build the confidence, clarity, self-awareness, and career management skills to navigate their careers long-term.
Your career will change.
Your values may shift.
Your priorities will evolve.
Industries transform.
Technology advances (too fast for my liking!)
Life happens. #motherhood
And throughout all of that, your ability to communicate your value, understand your strengths, and confidently navigate career decisions becomes incredibly important.
That’s why my approach is different.
Now, if you follow my social media pages, you might take full advantage of free stuff like resume reviews or drop-in service at the local library.
I Believe Career Development Is a Lifelong Skill
Many people think they need a resume”
But often what they actually need is:
career clarity
confidence
support after burnout
guidance through a transition
help identifying transferable skills
interview confidence
help articulating their strengths
support returning to work after a difficult season
a healthier relationship with work altogether
A resume is often just one small part of a much bigger picture.
This is why I focus on coaching and career wellbeing support rather than offering resume writing as a standalone service.
I want people to understand why their resume works. I want them to know how to update it themselves. I want them to feel empowered to manage their career moving forward, not dependent on me every time they apply for a role.
What I Do Offer Instead
While I don’t offer standalone resume writing services, I do offer support through:
During these sessions, we may absolutely work on:
resume structure
positioning experience
transferable skills
LinkedIn profiles
interview preparation
confidence and self-promotion
career direction
But the focus is always on education, empowerment, and long-term career sustainability.
Sometimes a 30-Minute Conversation Changes Everything
I also offer a free 30-minute consultation.
And honestly? Sometimes people leave that conversation with enough clarity, confidence, or direction to take the next step themselves.
"Merly combines compassion, clarity and strategic insight in a truly exceptional way. She has a remarkable ability to ask the right questions, clarify complexity, and gently open new perspectives without losing focus or direction. During our session, I gained far more clarity and momentum than I expected possible. I left with a much stronger understanding of my professional identity, direction and how to communicate my work with coherence and confidence." - Louise, Education Psychologist
Sometimes they realise they don’t actually need a completely new resume.
Sometimes they simply need guidance.
Sometimes they need encouragement.
Sometimes they need support rebuilding confidence after burnout, redundancy, injury, motherhood, or a major life transition.
And sometimes they decide they’d benefit from ongoing coaching support.
Either way, my goal is never to create dependency. It’s to help people build sustainable career confidence and wellbeing for the long term.
Free Resources Available Too
If you’re simply looking for resume tips and practical guidance, I also have free resources available, including my downloadable Resume Tips Guide.
Because even if we never work together formally, I still want people to feel more informed, empowered, and supported in their career journey.
Your career should support your wellbeing, not cost you your health, identity, relationships, or peace. That’s the work I’m passionate about.
