From Burnout to Self-Belief: Meera’s Career Wellbeing Journey

I received a Christmas card that has left me thinking about it a month later.
In true Meera form, it wasn’t really a card at all, it was a letter. Thoughtful, honest, and far too big to fit on the page. As I read her words, I was reminded why this work matters so deeply.
I wanted to share part of her story because it reflects a kind of success that often goes unseen.
Sometimes the most powerful transformations don’t begin with confidence or clarity.
They begin with uncertainty and a quiet knowing that something isn’t working anymore.
When burnout hides behind “being fine”
Meera came to work with me during a year she later described as one filled with “personal angst and uncertainty.”
After nearly 25 years of secure employment, she found herself questioning her place in the world of work, her value, and what she truly had to offer.
Like many people, she had learned to minimise her contributions and dismiss her strengths as “just part of the job”. Her sense of professional worth had quietly eroded over time.
Through career counselling, we began gently questioning long-held beliefs:
Where did these ideas about not being “enough” come from?
What skills and strengths had she been using for years without naming them?
What parts of herself had she silenced to stay safe?
At times, this work felt uncomfortable.
At times, she resisted it completely (her words, not mine).
And that’s okay.
Growth doesn’t require speed, it requires safety, which is why you don't see me running the Nurture Ambition Pathway program for less than 6 months.
Creating safety before clarity
This wasn’t about pushing Meera towards a new role or forcing decisions. It was about slowing down enough to restore capacity, confidence, and self-trust.
“Our sessions have been truly nourishing to my soul. I’ve laughed heartily and blubbered unashamedly. They lifted my spirits and helped me edge towards feeling a little more confident.”
Burnout recovery begins when people feel heard, not fixed.
By creating space for honest reflection, emotional regulation, and self-compassion, Meera was able to reconnect with herself in a way that made future career conversations possible.
Rewriting professional worth
Over time, Meera began to see her working life differently.
She started to recognise:
The depth of her experience
The transferable skills she had underestimated
The value she brought to people and workplaces
What once felt rigid and fixed slowly became flexible. Instead of searching for one “right” answer, new possibilities emerged, including different ways of entering an industry that aligned with her values, interests, and personal limitations.
“You encouraged me to change negative perceptions of my professional value, which has benefitted me as a whole.”
Perhaps the most powerful shift came when Meera did something she once believed she never could.
For the first time, she spoke publicly about what she was truly passionate about, even creating a LinkedIn profile to announce it.
“I have never felt ‘enough’ to speak about what I’m truly passionate about, let alone seek work in the industry. Now I’ve made it public on a LinkedIn page! Never in a million years.”
Where burnout recovery and career wellbeing meet
This journey wasn’t just about career clarity. It was about restoring a sense of self.
Burnout doesn’t only impact how we work, it affects confidence, identity, and our belief in what’s possible. That’s why burnout and career wellbeing coaching integrates emotional support with practical guidance, rather than treating them as separate problems.
“You have an innate ability to ask the right questions and ever so patiently hear the answers.”
By addressing both wellbeing and work together, Meera was able to move forward without overwhelming herself, building confidence slowly, sustainably, and on her own terms.
A gentle reminder for you
Meera’s story isn’t about having everything figured out, it’s about loosening old narratives, learning that confidence can grow quietly, and it’s about remembering that your value doesn’t disappear just because.
